OUR DESIGN PROCESS

Our Dental Design Process Ensures Consistent Beautiful Results

Lilac Dentistry uses a custom process to perfectly match your restored tooth to your natural teeth's unique tooth structure, gum line, shade, and opacity.

Why is there such a wide level of results in the dental profession when it comes to creating natural-looking restorations?

Creating a natural-looking dental restoration that perfectly matches a patient's teeth is a complex and meticulous process that involves several challenges. Natural teeth are incredibly diverse in terms of color, shape, size, and translucency. Each patient's teeth possess unique characteristics, and replicating this diversity is a complex task. Here's why achieving this level of precision can be difficult, time-consuming, and costly.

A perfect crown needs to match the following characteristics of a natural tooth:

  • Shape: Profile (front & side), volume, and topography

  • Color: White shade, hue, and variation in shade and hue.

  • Translucency: Variations in opaqueness throughout the tooth

  • Texture: Reflection (gloss) and feel

  • Integration into gumline

  • Utility: Hardness, strength, and Durability

Lilac Dentistry Follows a Proprietary 5-Step Process to Ensure a Beautiful Result Every Time

Step 1: Tooth Shape Analysis

We commence the process with a thorough shape analysis of the natural tooth. This involves scrutinizing the tooth's contours, curves, and overall form from both the front (profile) and side perspectives. By capturing every nuance of the tooth's shape, we ensure that the crown we craft is an exact replica, preserving the patient's unique dental profile and ensuring a harmonious appearance within their smile.

We use state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology, dental impressions, and a classification system to communicate your unique tooth shape requirements to our dental lab for reproduction ensuring a low reproduction rate and excellent results.

Step 2: Precision Color Matching

Achieving precise color matching is paramount for a natural appearance. We analyze the natural tooth's white shade, considering factors like hue and variations in shade. Our aim is to replicate the tooth's color profile with exceptional accuracy. We take into account not only the primary shade but also the subtle variations that make each tooth unique. This meticulous color matching ensures that the crown seamlessly blends with the surrounding teeth, resulting in a smile that looks entirely natural.

One common mistake with color matching is to assume that whiter is better. A common rule of thumb for the shade of your teeth is that your teeth should never be whiter than the whites of your eyes. Although we want people to enjoy the beauty of your smile, your eyes should always be the focal point of your face. Just like overly yellow or decayed teeth can distract from your interactions with friends and family, so can overly white teeth.

Depending on the location of the tooth and the level of crown service you have chosen. This might also include an in-person shade-matching visit to our dental lab for the highest level of color matching.

Step 3: Translucency Replication

Translucency is a defining characteristic of natural teeth. We focus on replicating the natural tooth's translucency, ensuring that the crown exhibits variations in opaqueness and translucency throughout its structure. The ceramicists we use carefully study the way light interacts with the natural tooth, and we replicate these properties to perfection in the crown. This attention to translucency ensures that the crown not only looks natural but also captures the play of light, providing a lifelike appearance.

Step 4: Texture Matching

Texture plays a crucial role in achieving a lifelike appearance. We meticulously match the surface texture of the crown to the natural tooth's gloss and texture, ensuring a seamless blend. Our ceramicists use their expertise to recreate the unique texture of the natural tooth, from the smoothness of enamel to any subtle surface characteristics. This dedication to texture matching results in a crown that not only looks real but also feels indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Step 5: Gumline Integration

The final step involves expert attention to seamless integration into the gumline. We customize the crown to integrate flawlessly at the gumline, following the natural contours of the gum for a smooth and natural transition. This careful gumline integration is essential to ensure that the crown appears as though it has always been a part of the patient's smile. It creates a harmonious union between the crown and the gums, completing the picture of a beautifully restored and natural-looking tooth.
